Cut price champers…offer ends 4 May

Although the recent sunshine has put a spring in my step the past week or so, as with life, the British Summer is bound to be unpredictable.

There is however, one thing that always brightens my mood. A glass of perfectly chilled, crisp dry champagne. Now couple that with cut-price bargain and I am halfway to heaven! Imagine my delight when I walked into Sainsbury’s this afternoon and discovered they are doing one of their fabulous 25% off all wine and champagne offers. The only catch is that you have to buy a minimum of 6. Oh, the hardship. I sometimes like to buy a few half bottles when they are on discount, as it doesn’t feel quite as decadent for a midweek treat.

The best deal on budget bubbly is the Sainburys own brand extra dry champers (already down to £14), and with the discount ends up at £10.50 a bottle. If you are happy with New World bubbles there is Jacob’s Creek , or Valdo Prosecco which you can pick up for £5.25 a bottle including the discount.

This week’s supermarket sweep 18/4/10

I’m never one to shy away from a bargain. This weeks saving is the weekend’s bottle of wine.

Let us start at the top in the supermarket stakes at Waitrose, always a pleasure, never a chore.

My personal fave offer for this week is the prosciutto down from £3.99 to £2.65, although those of you that are children of the 70′s may be slightly more thrilled by the prospect of 2 for 1 on ‘fab’ lollies and penguins.

Moving on to Sainsburys in my opinion their best offer this week is the Calvet Prestige range of wines (both red and white) both of which are down from £9.99 to £4.99.

The love it or hate it Marmite of the supermarket stakes, Tesco, is offering the alway reliable Wolf Blass Yellow Label in both white and red for a mere fiver per bottle. And the sparkling Freixenet Rose Cava for just £5.99.

Offer of the week from Morrisons is 9 pkts of Pampers Sensitive wipes for a hard to believe £7. If you are not in the market for baby wipes then they are also doing an impressive 2 for £1 on napolina tinned tomatoes or 2 for one on Buitoni Spaghetti

Asda are offering a range of deals on a range of baby/toddler products, and it seems a wide range of pork. An interesting mix.

Lidl have the usual impressive offers on fruit and veg. Mangoes, 39p each, Savoy Cabbage 39p, Courgettes 99p per kilo and Watermelon £1.49 each. They also seem to be offering 2 Doner Kebabs for the princely sum of £1. Not sure that I”ll be queueing up for that particular offer.

Having reviewed my list, I am quite alarmed to see how many references it contains to cut price booze. I cannot think why!
